• Scecina Memorial High School teacher Amy Fix is the winner of the 2020 St. Theodora Guerin Excellence in Education Award given by the Office of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Mrs. Fix is the chair of Scecina’s World Languages Dept. and teaches English as a New Language. She has also been a Spanish teacher at Scecina. She has been teaching at Scecina since 2015. Congratulations!
• If you watched the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 2, you may have seen an eastside face. Sheldon Day, who plays for teh San Francisco 49ers, is a Warren Central grad. Everyone is really proud of this exceptional athlete!
• The Beech Grove Historical Society will hold a meeting on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 6:30 pm in the Community Room at the Beech Grove Branch Library. The public is invited to attend this meeting. The discussion topic will be “What Do You Remember about Main Street Businesses”.
• The Grand Opening of the 10 East Arts HUB will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The HUB is located at 3137 E. 10th St. and is a new space for creatives on the near eastside. There will be goodies and crafts for all ages.
• There will be a Coffee with a Cop on Sunday, Feb. 19 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Starbucks at 2045 N. Shadeland. This is a great opportunity to get to know East District officers in an informal setting.
• Brad Klopfenstein has been selected as the new president of Greater Lawrence Chamber of Commerce. Brad has a long track record of being an advocate for small businesses in Indiana and the Indianapolis area.
• School-age children ages 6-12 are invited to a variety of STEAM programs at the Warren branch library (9701 E. 21st St.) on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m. Activities include games, coding, art projects, and more.
• Upcoming near eastside neighborhood association meetings include Springdale on Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Alford House (2428 E. 10th St.); Brookside on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Nehemiah Bible Church (1035 N Oxford St).; St. Clair Place on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at John Boner Neighborhood Center, St. Clair Place Room (2236 E. 10th St.). Residents and business owners in those neighborhoods are encouraged to attend.
• The Greenfield Police Dept. would like residents who have a home video surveillance system installed that covers a driveway, sidewalk, or roadway to partner with them to reduce crime. You can register your camera with them online at the Greenfield Web site, greenfieldin.org and following the link.
• Arts for Lawrence is putting on a Valentine’s Concert and Swing Dance on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sterrett Center, 8950 Otis Ave. The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra are on the bill, and you can listen to your heart’s content or dance with your darling. Tickets re $15 each. There will be a cash bar with beer and wine.
