INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Chief Bryan Roach will retire from the department at the end of the year. The 28-year veteran has served as the city’s top law enforcement officer since Mayor Hogsett appointed him in January 2017.
Roach’s tenure as IMPD police chief has been marked by an emphasis on criminal justice reform and a community-focused, grassroots public safety strategy. During his three years as chief, the department returned to citywide beat policing and created the Mobile Crisis Assistance Team (MCAT) focused on treating, rather than jailing, individuals suffering from mental health issues. Chief Roach also oversaw the launch of the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC), which works across federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to identify serial shooters for investigation and prosecution and created the Indianapolis Violence Reduction Partnership IVRP that brings together all federal state and local criminal justice partners within central Indiana every two weeks to collectively impact violence.
Chief Roach will continue to serve as police chief through the end of the year.
