INDIANAPOLIS — The Avondale Meadows YMCA will officially open its doors to members on August 21 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. A Community Day Celebration will take place on August 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Avondale Meadows YMCA is located at 3908 Meadows Drive on the eastside of Indianapolis.
This will be the first facility to open under the YMCA’s Strengthening the Heart of the City Campaign. Funds are currently being raised to also open new YMCAs in Pike Township and downtown at the CityWay Development.
Part of a large-scale redevelopment project aimed to help revitalize the area, the new facility has been created through a unique partnership between HealthNet and the YMCA. It will be the Y’s fourth hospital partnership in the area.
The entire community is invited out to explore the 34,000 square foot facility featuring a 5,600 square-foot, fully-equipped wellness center with strength and cardio equipment and free weights, Gym with two courts, aerobics and multi-purpose rooms, an education/community room, a teen center, a Child Watch center, an Early Learing Center, Chapel, and locker rooms.
One of the most unique aspects of this new YMCA is the opening of the Early Childhood Learning Center, which is being supported by the Lilly Endowment. The center will be a learning space for children ages 3-5 years old and will be a model for future expansions of early care and learning centers at other YMCAs. Look for more information about how to register for the Early Learning Center soon. Information will be posted on the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis Web site. Financial assistance will be based on household income and CCDF will also be accepted.
