• Thank you to all the hard-working volunteers at the Irvington Garden Tour on June 30. The ladies and gentlemen who manned booths and helped out behind the scenes on a sweltering day don’t get enough credit for their work. Thank you to the wonderful homeowners who allowed a bunch of sweaty strangers to wander their little properties. The gardens were beautiful!
• Mark your calendars for July 8 – July 14 for Carol in July, the IRT’s annual pre-sale for A Christmas Carol. For one week only, get early access to tickets for this Indy holiday tradition and take advantage of waived fees. This year, the production will feature all redesigned costumes! Starting July 8, call the Ticket Office at 317-635-5252 or visit irtlive.com to purchase tickets.
• As of July 1, individuals convicted of abusing an animal will be prohibited from owning or training a cat or dog during their probation or parole. The new law outlines 13 animal abuse offenses, including animal fighting.
• The Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside (FIDO) Flea Market will be held Saturday, July 6 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at their headquarters, 1505 N. Sherman Dr. Proceeds from the sale go to support the pet food pantry held monthly for low-income pet owners. Included in the sale are new dog and cat items, bowls, leashes, and many more pet needs. Also check out the many household items.
• Heads-up to drivers in Lawrence: Sunnyside Rd. between the CSX tracks and Pendleton Pike will be closed for road restoration for at least two weeks beginning Monday, July 8. Seek alternate routes.
• If you live in Beech Grove and garden, you might want to join the brand new Beech Grove Garden Club, which will have its first meeting on Saturday, July 6 at 2 p.m. at Hornet Park Community Center. The meeting will be a meet-and-greet and plant and seed share. It is a great way to share your enthusiasm for gardening.
• Entertainment on the Plaza in Greenfield will host Brandywine Wind on Friday, July 5 for a patriotic themed selection of music. On Friday, July 12, the Indianapolis Municipal Band will perform American standards. Both shows will take place at 7 p.m. on the Greenfield City Plaza, Hancock Co. Courthouse South Lawn. Admission is free; bring your own seating. There are no rain dates or sites for the shows.
• You definitely want to check out First Friday July 5 from 6-10 p.m. in Irvington at Hampton Designs, 5515 E. Washington St., as they celebrate veteran artists. Some very good work will be available.
