INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Fair Commission recently announced that the Indiana State Fairgrounds Mile “Track of Champions,” located inside the Fairgrounds, will be converted from a dirt surface to an all-weather track made of crushed limestone, which allows for year-round harness racing and a more efficient parking plan for the annual Indiana State Fair. Key areas of improvement played into this decision:
• Standardbred Harness Training: The track conversion will increase the availability of track training time.
• Half-Mile Track Elimination: The conversion of the mile track means that the current half-mile track located inside the Fairgrounds will be eliminated, allowing for a more efficient parking plan for the Indiana State Fair and other key year-round events. Availability of one-mile track parking during the Fair would no longer be weather dependent. Removing the half-mile track also paves the way for the organization’s Master Plan goal of enhancing the guest experience for those parking in the infield.
While the track conversion offers many benefits and improvements, converting the dirt track to an all-weather track means that motor racing events will no longer be held on the one-mile track. The 2019 Hoosier Hundred, scheduled for May 23rd, will be the last running of this racing event at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center.
Tickets for the final running of the Hoosier Hundred are available through Ticketmaster.com. Reserved seats for adults are $25 presale or $30 at the gate. Infield tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 11 and under.
