• SAVE THE DATE: Our very own Alan Hunter will be hosting a discussion of The Band, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first performance, on Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m. at the Irving Theatre, 5505 E. Washington St. A line-up of local stars, including Jay Baker, Dave “The King” Wilson, and Ed Wenck will be on hand to talk about the legacy of The Band. Special musical guest The Mud Creek Conservatory (Ed Wenck and Josh Gillespie) will perform, and the Firehouse Irvington Podcast will be made immediately after with Kevin Friedly. A $5 donation is suggested at the door, which will be go to support an independent free press (Weekly View). It will be an amazing afternoon of stories and music, so mark your calendars!
• Local authors will discuss their works and careers at the East 38th St. branch of the library (5420 E. 38th St.) on Monay, April 1 from 6-7 p.m.
• The beautiful new IFD Station 3, Engine 3 and Battalion 5 station opened Monday, March 25. The station is located at 1308 E. Prospect Ave.
• IndyFringe is presenting DivaFest from April 12-21, with all seven DivaFest plays as comedies. In the Presence of My Enemies, Who’s Minding the Snapper?, aMUSed, and others will be produced — all written by women. Individual tickets are $12-$15 each, and a Fiver Pass allows you to see five shows for $55. Visit www.indyfringe.org/divafest-2019 for schedules and to order tickets. This is the 10th year for DivaFest.
• The City of Indianapolis recently gave final approval for a third scooter company to operate in the city. Spin will join Bird and Lime in operating scooters across town. Now that spring weather is just around the corner, keep in mind that scooters will be everywhere. Scooter riders need to remember that they are not to be ridden on sidewalks or trails, and must be left upright and out of the public right-of-way.
• Indy Parks is looking for summer help, and is offering free lifeguard training fromo noon-1 p.m. on Saturdays at the George Washington Community School pool. • The 9th Annual Indiana Artisan Marketplace will be held Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, April 7 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Exposition Hall. Top artisans from across Indiana will be on hand. Tickets are $10 at the door, and 14 and younger admitted free. This is always a great show with interesting works available for purchase, plus homegrown foods. Check it out!
