• A HUGE round of applause should go to the volunteers and organizers of this year’s Historic Irvington Halloween Festival. Every event was well-attended or sold out, and lots of money was raised for a number of local charities. Everything ran smoothly and the street fair offered people a whole day of safe fun.

• Congratulations go out to the 2018 ISSMA Scholastic Class A State Champions, the Warren Central Gold Brigade! The Gold Brigade brought home Warren Central’s first state title of the school year on Oct. 27, marking their second consecutive win in Scholastic State Finals. They will be performing in exhibition at ISSMA Open Class State Finals Nov. 3 at Lucas Oil Stadium, and, for the first time in ISSMA history, Warren Central will be the only school from Indianapolis to perform at Open Class Finals this year.
• Winter is coming, and DPW is getting ready. While we hope that our first snow won’t be for a good long while, citizens should bookmark www.indy.gov/snow or follow the Indy Snow Force on Twitter @IndySnowForce now for the season.
• Tickets are still available for Slugfest, an annual charity boxing event between Police and Fire on Sat., Nov. 3 at the Tyndall Armory, 711 N. Pennsylvania. Doors open at 5:30 and fights start at 7 p.m. Buy tickets online at www.911Slugfest.com or at the door. Proceeds go to the Little Wish Foundation.
• On Nov. 2 from 5:30-8:00 p.m., Garfield Park Arts Center will present Dia de Muertos, or a Day of the Dead event. Traditional music and food are highlights of the evening, and everyone can try their hand at a traditional craft. Guests are encouraged to dress up in traditional outfits and face paint for a night parade through Garfield Park to the Tube Factory at the end of the event. Admission is free. The Arts Center is located at 2432 Conservatory Dr.
• The fall musical for Warren Twp. students will be Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, on Nov. 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 10 at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. General admission tickets are $10, and can be purchased by visiting the PAC website at www.warrenpac.org
•The Auxiliary to Community Hospital East will sponsor a $5 Jewelry and Accessories Sale on Wed., Nov. 7, 7 p.m. — 10 p.m.; Thurs., Nov. 8, 6:30 a.m. — 9 p.m.; Fri., Nov. 9, 6:30 a.m.–3 p.m. at Community Hospital East Main Lobby area. Proceeds benefit hospital programs/services. For further information, please call Volunteer Services at 317-355-5120. The hospital is located at 1500 N. Ritter Ave.
• Otterbein Neighborhood Association will have a pancake breakfast fundraiser and meeting on Sat., Nov. 10 from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. at Otterbein UM Church, 5009 E. 21st St. All you can eat pancakes and sausage for $4 per person!
