• Arsenal Technical High School (Tech) is having Alumni Day, Sat., June 9. Gates open at 8 a.m. The Cafeteria will be open with Tech merchandise to buy and the campus will be open for self-guided tours. The Alumni Program is at 10 a.m. in the Auditorium. • NeighborLink is looking for volunteers to assist with projects. It is a private nonprofit organization that provides free home repairs and related services to low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities in Marion County. • Phoenix Theatre founding Producing Director Bryan Fonseca has stepped down from his position as Artistic Director after more than 35 years of passionate advocacy for local theatre. The stage at the new Russell Theatre will be named the Bryan Fonseca Stage in his honor. Bill Simmons has been named as the new Artistic Director.
• Holy Rosary Catholic Church will hold its annual Italian Street Festival June 8 and 9, from 5-11 p.m. both nights. The church is located at 520 Stevens St. The Festival will be held in the blocks south of the church, with free parking in the Eli Lilly lot north of E. Merrill St. There will be rides and games for kids of all ages, live music, and of course, the food! This is Italian food central, including authentic cannoli. Admission is free.
• June is Pride Month, and to kick off the festivities, the annual Pride Parade will be held on Mass Ave. from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Pride Festival will be held in Military Park, 100 N. West St. from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Tickets to the festival are $5 online at Eventbrite. For $9, you can buy a ticket that allows Indy Pride to give another ticket away to someone in need via a local non-profit.
• The Irvington Halloween Festival Poster Contest is underway and entries must be dropped off at the Irvington Branch Library from noon on Monday, June 25th, to 6 p.m. Friday, July 6th, 2018. Contest rules are on the website irvingtonhalloween.com. The library is at 5625 E. Washington St. Contest awards: 1st place is a cash prize of $500 and second place is a cash prize of $250. All other entries will receive acknowledgement on the Historic Irvington Halloween Festival’s Facebook page.
• Athenaeum Foundation President Cassie Stockamp has announced plans to resign from the organization after 11 years on the job. She has led the effort to get the Athenaeum, located on East Michigan St., designated as a National Historic Landmark, plus ramped up efforts to raise funds for the upkeep on the building.
•A big thank you goes out to Irvington Development Organization and their hard work getting bike racks installed along East Washington St. and in front of the Bona Thompson Memorial Center. More racks are being planned for Irvington, so stay tuned! With more people using bikes for local trips, these new racks will be put to good use!
• Last call to sign up for the Eastside Games, which will take place June 16-23 at a number of east side businesses and facilities. There are lots of competitions to choose from, including trivia, cornhole, cooking, dodgeball, tug of war, and euchre.
