• The Indy 500 Film Festival at the Irvington Branch, 5625 E. Washington St., will showcase the career of the late Dan Gurney May 15 at 7 p.m. The films will offer a biography of Dan Gurney, featuring the 1962 Indy 500, which was Gurney’s rookie race, the 1963 Riverside 500 Mile Stock Car Race and the 1967 Le Mans F1 race.
• IndyGo’s Summer Youth Pass and year-round Half Fare programs are affordable options for Indianapolis riders 18 and under. For only $30, youth can ride on IndyGo all summer long with a Summer Pass, June 1 through August 31. For IndyGo’s Summer Youth Pass and Half Fare for youth, a valid student ID (K-12) or an IndyGo Half Fare ID card for youth is required when riding the bus. To apply for Half Fare, complete the Half Fare application available online at www.indygo.net or in person, and bring it along with proof of age to the Julia M. Carson Transit Center Customer Service Desk, located at 201 E. Washington St. IndyGo Half Fare ID cards may be obtained for $2 at the Transit Center.
• Eskenazi Health is the latest sponsor to the Pathways Over Pogues fund, joining several others and individuals who are raising revenue to improve the Pogues Run area.
• Congratulations to Ethan Elsbury of Greenfield, a junior at Greenfield-Central High School, who was recently recognized as a Distinguished Finalist for Indiana in the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. Ethan invested more that 400 hours in creating and maintaining a community garden, and managed to feed 2,800 students at three local schools.
• First Friday and Cinco de Guava
Paula and CJ were at the Landmarks Building for First Friday when a woman approached CJ to say that she was a faithful reader. We want to express our appreciation to Cynthia Carter Graff for her continuing support. The following day, Paula, Ethel and CJ were sampling Ash & Elm’s small batch offering of Guava — the first Saturday offering coincided with Cinco de Mayo celebrations — when Sherrie Knighton approached CJ to say that she and her husband, John, were avid readers of The Weekly View. Sherrie and John were also sampling the cider house wares. We thank you for your readership.
• Want to head out a little ways from Indy? The 10th Annual Justin Steinwachs Memorial Car Show will be held Sat., May 12th in Knightstown along U.S. 40 and Knightstown’s Public Square. The show runs 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. All proceeds benefit Knightstown Youth. There is a $15 registration fee. Dash plaques will go to the first 100 to register. Awards will be at 3 p.m. There will be lots of food, door prizes, raffles, silent auctions, and live music beginning at noon. • The Historic Irvington Community Council will meet Tues., May 15 at Irvington Presbyterian Church, 55 Johnson Ave., at 7 p.m. Representatives from IndyGo will present plans for the Bus Rapid Transit Blue Line that will run east-west on Washington St. from Holt Rd. to Cumberland.
• Mark your calenders for the Poets Laureate of Lawrence reading May 22 from 7-9 p.m. at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. There will be an eco-poetry writing workshop and sharing of poems about trees and nature.
