INDIANAPOLIS — Several agencies recently announced the opening of a winter night overflow shelter for up to 50 men. Located at Central Christian Church, this new space will provide relief from the cold weather to individuals currently experiencing homelessness.
Central Christian Church will open gym space located at 701 N. Delaware St., providing warm shelter for up to 50 individuals each night through February. This new overflow shelter will be staffed by Wheeler Mission and community volunteers.
During these colder months, men seeking shelter can check in at Wheeler Mission’s Shelter for Men, where they will be assigned to a bed or transported to an overflow shelter. The Shelter for Men, located at 520 E. Market St., has capacity for 400 individuals, with an additional 93 beds available at Wheeler Mission’s Men’s Residential Center.
Women, including those with children, seeking shelter through winter nights can check in at Wheeler Mission’s Center for Women and Children, located at 3208 E. Michigan St., where they will be assigned to permanent beds or transported to partner shelters.
