IRVINGTON — During the month of October Artisan REALTORS decided to do what they could to give back to the victims of hurricanes and floods in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico while at the same time beginning to help educate the community about flood plains and flood insurance.
On October 21, they held a fundraiser with Irvington’s own Gordon Bonham and the Gordon Bonham Trio as the entertainment. About 100 people were in attendance. Donations as well as a silent auction (with donated prizes) raised just about $2,350 which was given to “The Week of Compassion” (an Indianapolis based charity that makes sure that 100 percent of the funds given for specific disaster relief get where they are needed, with no administration costs).
In addition to fundraising for a great cause, the realtors promoted knowledge of the new (about two years old) flood plain maps along Pleasant Run Creek at the Halloween Festival Street Fair on October 28. They have found a lot of people have no idea their home is now in the flood plain until they decide to sell, or by accident. No one was specifically notified when the Corp of Engineers re-drew the maps. Visitors to their office could view the maps and chat with one of the associates about flood plains and flood insurance. They will be framing the maps and having them available for permanent viewing at our office in the heart of the Irvington business district at 5610 E. Washington St.
