• The Kennedy King Memorial Initiative will commemorate the historic night of April 4, 1968 on April 4 at 5 p.m. The public is invited to Martin Luther King Jr. Park at 17th and Broadway for remarks by Pastor David Greene of Concerned Clergy, 1960s Freedom Rider Frances Wilson Canty, plus performances, tributes, and of course, the iconic speech by Robert F. Kennedy.
• City of Lawrence DPW has announced that resurfacing projects are underway. All projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of May. The five streets scheduled to be paved are Mitthoefer (46th to 52nd), 59th (Lee to Sunnyside), 63rd (Lee to Oaklandon), Sunnyside (Pendleton Pike to 59th), and 79th (Oaklandon to Carroll). Plan your routes accordingly.
• A traveling exhibit on the past, present, and future of mass incarceration opens on Thurs., April 13 and continues through Sun., May 14 at Central Library. On April 18 Lori Pompa, founder of The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program, will lead a conversation with Inside Out instructors, students, and graduates about innovative approaches. • The City of Indianapolis Office of Sustainability recently created two Great Places INvision Resilience Fellowships. The Fellows will focus on integrating sustainability and climate resilience into the planning process for Twin Aire and 25th & MLK neighborhoods. • The Indiana State Museum will host an exhibition, “100 Years Later: Indiana in the First World War” from April 6 to Nov. 11. There will be several installations and exhibitions related to Indiana’s contribution to the war effort. The exhibition is included in museum admission. The museum is located at 650 W. • In celebration of the historic wins of Charles A. Tindley Accelerated High School, Crispus Attucks and Ben Davis at the IHSAA State Finals, Mayor Joe Hogsett and the Indianapolis Indians are inviting all three teams and their coaching staffs to the Indians’ season opener on Thurs., April 6.
