From The Indianapolis Star, Wednesday, February 21: In preparation for “Bird House Day,” school children in the Indianapolis public schools are building 1,600 bird houses according to Harry E. Wood, director of manual training for the schools. The city park department has been advocating for the conservation of Indiana native birds for some time, and has been cooperating with the schools to this end. Mr. Wood has been visiting the schools, and he has found that the boys who have put so much time in building the houses are quite anxious to have them placed in the vicinity of their homes where they can get the pleasure of seeing the birds in them. Sometime next month about 400 bird houses will be placed in public parks and along boulevards ready to welcome birds fortunate enough to find these ready-made homes.
