From The Indianapolis News, Saturday, November 11, 1916: The Hoosier State Automobile Association will have a chain of hotels and garages throughout Indiana in place by the start of the automobile touring season of 1917 at which motorists can stop and be assured of fair and courteous treatment. Motorists will be able to recognize these establishments by the heavy steel signs enameled red, white, and blue that bear the emblem of the American Automobile Association and the Hoosier State Automobile Association and read at the top “Courtesy First” and at the bottom “We Are Members.” The signs are leased to garage men and hoteliers indefinitely, but may be removed at any time complaints of the service is shown to be well founded. State association members will now be able to travel over Indiana with more comfort and ease than before.
