• The Board of Directors, members, and volunteers of Buck Creek Players and the family of Blaine Jarrett recently announced this year’s Blaine Jarrett Memorial Scholarship recipient as Emma Kivett. Ms. Kivett was presented her scholarship on Sat., Aug. 6. She is a senior at Mooresville High School who will be attending Ball State University and double majoring in theatrical studies and speech communications. Congratulations!
• Senior Promise, a Franciscan St. Francis Health-based program, will present Journey Through Wellness, Thurs., Sept. 8 at The Atrium (3143 E. Thompson Road). The event, open from 8 a.m. to noon, provides an interactive experience of health and wellness education, screenings and other activities. Pharmacists will be on hand to help with medication accuracy and safety by meeting individually with participants who bring in their prescription and over-the-counter drugs. • “The Cheese Lady” Sarah Kaufmann returns to the Indiana State Fair with a 1,400 pound sculpture honoring the state’s Bicentennial. Look for it in the Ag/Hort building on the fairgrounds thoughout the rest of the run of the fair.
• Students at George W. Julian School are enjoying the new Ben Carson Reading Room at the school, which features comfy seating, a life-sized mural, and hundreds of the most popular children’s books. Books can be read inside the room but not checked out. The room has limited hours at the moment as it is staffed by parents and community volunteers — if you would like to volunteer to inspire kids to read, give IPS a call at 317-226-4000.
• Want to have a say in the next Indiana license plate? The BMV is offering online voting for the new design at myBMV.com and at the BMV State Fair display in the Exposition Hall. Hoosiers will see the winning plate design beginning in January 2017. Three designs are finalists: Covered Bridge, The Hoosier State, and Crossroads of America.
• Want to start getting into the Halloween spirit early? Check out the Skyline Drive-In’s annual Super Monster Movie Fest Aug. 26-28. Classic horror movies all weekend long, free camping Fri. & Sat. night, and special guest Sammy Terry on Fri. night! Tickets are $12 for adults per night or $20 for two day pass; $6 for ages 3-11 per night or $10 for two day pass. The snack bar will be open for the duration of the event.
