• On May 29, a driver plowed into the Maximum Grow store at 6117 E. Washington St,, destroying the west side of the building. On May 30, the Heidelberg Haus on Pendleton Pike was damaged by another driver. We are glad no one was injured in both accidents and hope that these fine businesses will be up and running before too long.
• The Meridian-Kessler Home and Garden Tour will be June 3-5. The Twilight Tour on Friday, June 3, offers views of three homes on Washington Blvd., a dinner-dance, and admission to the weekend Day Tour for $75. The Day Tour on Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5, includes eight homes for $15 in advance or $20 the day of the tour at any tour home. Tickets available online at www.mkhometour.com. • Rock The Block 6 will be happening this weekend, June 4 from noon-5 p.m. This is a free community even where all welcome. • Mark your calendars for the next Indy Food Council meeting on June 17 from 4-7 p.m. at the Platform, 202 E. Market St. The event will note the accomplishment of the council, plus premiere the full feature film Food First. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a panel discussion about food as economic and community development.
• Speaking of food, it’s that time of the year again for farmer’s markets to start. Check out the new Garfield Park Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon. Garfield Park is located at the corner of Shelby St. and E. Southern Ave.
• The ever-popular Irvington Farmer’s Market, now in its 16th year, will open Sun., June 12 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. An Indy Channel A-List winner for best farmer’s market in the Indianapolis metro area, the monthly market features lots of local produce, meat, dairy, bakery, and other foods plus artisan goods, information booths, and great opportunities for people (and dog) watching.
