From The Indianapolis News, Friday, May 26, 1916: Citizens of Irvington, Tuxedo, Brightwood and Beech Grove had an unpleasant surprise when they drew their early morning glasses of water today. The water from the twenty-four inch main supplying that part of the city was pale brown in color and full of a sediment. There was no taste or odor with it. Testing by the Indianapolis Water Company proved the sediment was iron and lime. Investigation showed that last night a fire alarm compelled an increase in flow and in water pressure to this main from Fall Creek that supplies the eastern part of the city. Sediment was stirred-up in the large main and the result flowed from household taps. The main will be flushed, and the water will be as clear as usual by tomorrow.
