INDIANAPOLIS —Five juniors from Westfield, Warren Central, Avon, Bloomington South, and Western Boone Junior Senior high schools produced the top works in Herron School of Art and Design’s third annual Indiana High School Junior Art Invitational. The prize winners were announced during an exhibition opening reception on April 9. Forty-two juried works selected from submissions by high school art teachers from Crown Point to New Albany will be on exhibit through April 20 in the Marsh Gallery of Eskenazi Hall at Herron. As always, exhibitions are free and open to the public.
Hallie Kane of Westfield High School placed first, for her work “Self-Portrait.” Second Place went to Destini Ross of Warren Central High School for her untitled work. Richard Spencer is her art teacher.
Herron scholarships of $2,000, $1,000 and $500 went to the first-, second- and third-place students, respectively. All placing students earned scholarships to Herron’s Honors Art and Design Teen Summer Institute. Teachers of the top three students were recognized with full scholarships to a half-day workshop at Herron. Approximately 40 teachers from 27 high schools submitted 157 works.
