From The Indianapolis Times, Monday, April 10: The Irvington business district is “dolled up” this week in green and white, because merchants of that thriving section of the city decided to have a “Buy-It-In-Irvington Week.” All stores are decorated in the colors chosen by the Irvington Business Men’s Association, and special bargains are announced for the week. Wednesday night is open house and souvenirs and samples will be distributed. There will be demonstrations of food products in the groceries and druggists will have surprises for their visitors. Association president Edward J. Hecker predicts business in Irvington will be a record breaker. Every line is represented in Irvington except a furniture store, farm implement store, and ready-made clothing. Irvington stores serve a population estimated at from 10,000 to 12,000 and the usual week’s business runs into the thousands of dollars.
