INDIANAPOLIS — Sun., April 3 marks A Salute to Jimmy Mack, which will be the Indiana Music and Entertainment Museum’s (IMEM) first in a series of evenings dedicated to honoring a Hoosier legend for their contributions. Jimmy McDowell, aka Jimmy Mack, is perhaps best known for his “Bandstand 13” and “Teen Whirl” programs on Channels 8 and 13 respectively, in the 1960s, which presented local, regional and national bands similarly to Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. Jimmy also worked at several radio stations during his illustrious career.
The event, hosted by Chef Joseph’s at the Connoisseur Room, 115 E. Ohio Street in downtown Indianapolis, is free to attend and features complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The evening runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include a showing of rare Bandstand 13 and other vintage local TV footage.
IMEM accepts donations of historical music, film, and broadcasting artifacts, along with monetary donations which will enable expanded exhibits and other programs. Donations are tax deductible.
IMEM is now located at the Wheeler Arts Community at 1035 Sanders Street, Rm 202 in Fountain Square. Open by appointment and selected evenings. Find out more at imemindiana.org or on Facebook at facebook/imemindiana.
