From The Indianapolis News, Tuesday, January 11: Toys, small trinkets, and curios, carved by German prisoners of war in British concentration camps on the Isle of Man and elsewhere in England, have been sent to Indianapolis. They will be offered for sale to raise money to enable the prisoners to obtain some luxuries of prison life not supplied by their captors. The Society of Friends Church in England has provided the prisoners with tools and materials to make the items. Herman P. Lieber received the shipment from War Prisoners Relief Society and the articles will be displayed at the German House. Small horses and wagons, cases for playing cards, miniature paintings, carved frames, and cigarette and cigar boxes show the remarkable skill and handiwork of the German prisoners. Prices range from 25 cents to $10 (2014: $5.36 to $214.32).
