• It seems like every other day, there is a new recall on food and medications. Stay up-to-date on the latest recalls online at fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts — bookmark it!
• Every Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon, the Cumberland Farmers Market is open just west of the Town Hall, 11501 E. Washington St. Over 20 vendors are signed up, providing fruits, vegetables, baked goods, meats, cheeses, and much more.
• The Irvington Lodge is hosting a Market and Pinball Social on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. On the second floor will be arts, crafts, and craft supplies. On the third floor is the pinball and the art gallery. Free entry, but $10 for all-you-can-play pinball. The Lodge is located at 5515 E. Washington St. (Washington and Johnson Ave.).
• Eastside Community Action has hired an attorney to appeal the DC Blox data center approval. They have a Facebook page (search for Eastside Community Action Against Data Centers). Despite the City-County Council vote for a moratorium on data centers in the city, the previously approved proposals will be grandfathered in and can continue their plans.
• The Beech Grove Concert Series continues on Thursday, Aug. 20 from 7-9 p.m. with Cornfield Mafia, a high-energy country band. The concert will be at Sarah Bolton Park, 1300 Churchman Ave. This is the last show of the year, so bring your lawn chair and enjoy a free show!
• There will be a Comic and Toy Show on Sunday, Aug. 16 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2100 E. 71st St. Admission is $3, kids under 12 are free. There will be buying, selling, and trading of all kinds of toys and comics.
• Mark your calendar for the last Blues, Beer and BBQ concert of the season sponsored by the Town of Cumberland on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 6-9 p.m. at 11501 E. Washington St. This month’s show features classic blues from Black Cat and the Bones and Tad Robinson. Go out and enjoy BBQ, beer (no outside alcohol), and great blues. Bring your own lawn chair. Admission is free.
• IMPD has issued a reminder to parents and guardians to keep your kids’ identities safe on social media. Avoid sharing pictures with locations, school names, hobbies, and teacher names as we celebrate back-to-school. This personal information could be used by people with bad intentions — let’s keep the kiddos safe!
• Another Clear Vibes house concert is coming up on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. at 1230 N. Riley. Greg Ziesemer and the Soup Hounds will be playing roots music in a casual, comfortable environment. A $20 donation is appreciated per person. Reserve a spot online at clearvibeshouseconcert.com/calendar/ and search for the show.
