INDIANAPOLIS — This summer, the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is deepening its commitment to health equity and food access by partnering with some of Central Indiana’s most respected hunger-fighting organizations. From fresh produce to hot meals and protein-rich boxes, these collaborative efforts are helping nourish hearts, minds and bodies across our neighborhoods.
• The YMCA Family Institute Produce Program is lifting up 10 families with fresh fruits and vegetables every other week for three months. Beyond food, families receive easy, budget-friendly recipes — making healthy eating accessible and empowering.
• At The Irsay Family YMCA at CityWay, a partnership with Second Helpings is providing 50 hot, nutritious meals every Thursday to members of our unhoused community. These meals do more than feed—they restore dignity and hope.
• Ransburg YMCA has joined forces with CAFÉ (Community Alliance of the Far Eastside) to provide protein-rich emergency food — milk, eggs, cheese and fruit — to registered families. This refrigerated program is essential in providing emergency food assistance to one of the largest food deserts in the Midwest. To date, 270 families have been served 8,796 lbs. of food in 10 months.
• Avondale Meadows YMCA, in partnership with Gleaners Food Bank, is on track to serve up to 500 families every first and third Wednesday of the month with fresh produce — bringing vital nourishment to neighborhoods where it’s needed most.
