Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at Beef & Boards

INDIANAPOLIS – Celebrating redemption against the odds, Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre’s one-hour production of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol is now on stage through Dec. 23. There are just 11 performances of this stage adaptation of the beloved tale, which features traditional carols.
A miserly businessman, Ebenezer Scrooge’s bitterness has grown through the years until it consumes him. Caring little for the needs of his fellow man, Scrooge strives to keep money in his pocket rather than coal on the fire. Meanwhile, his employee Bob Cratchit faithfully endures the ongoing chill from both his workplace and his boss.
Cratchit keeps Scrooge in his prayers, even though his own family struggles to survive on his meager salary. The health of Cratchit’s young son Tiny Tim is equally poor, but Scrooge’s heart is as cold and dark as London’s unforgiving winter, and his coffers remain shut tight.
Scrooge’s mercilessness stirs the spirit of his late business partner, Jacob Marley, who appears to him on Christmas Eve. Warning of the fate that will befall Scrooge if he does not change his ways, Marley tells him that he will be visited by three more spirits and advises to heed the messages they bring. The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come then appear to Scrooge in succession – reminding him of what was, showing what is, and foretelling the bleak and lonely future that is his destiny should he continue on his present path. Not only will his life be quickly forgotten if he maintains his miserly ways, but those around him are destined to face hardships that he could have easily prevented.
