Workshops Will Help Build Sustainability

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability, in partnership with Indy Parks, recently announced a series of sustainability- and climate-focused workshops for community members to learn more about different aspects of environmental action and well-being. The Indy’s Thriving Neighbors Series includes different topics presented by local experts and hosted at Indy Parks family centers. Each workshop is free to attend and open to all ages.

• Eco-Therapy with Hemlock Counseling Services on Saturday, April 13 from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. at Washington Park Family Center, 3130 E. 30th St. (includes a guided nature walk through the park’s trails)
• Environmental Justice with Kheprw Institute on Friday, April 26 from 11 a.m. – noon at the Garfield Park Family Center, 2345 Pagoda Dr. (AES Indiana will also be giving away tree saplings at this Arbor Day celebration event)
• Water + Rain Barrels with the Marion County Soil & Water Conservation District and the White River Alliance on Wednesday, May 1 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Brookside Park Family Center, 3500 S. Brookside Parkway S. Dr. (includes rain barrels for the first 10 registrants)
• How to Compost with Indy Go Green on Thursday, May 9 from  6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Pride Park Family Center1129 Vandeman St.
• Healthy & Sustainable Eating with Black Leaf Vegan on Thursday, May 16 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Frederick Douglass Park Family Center, 1616 E. 25th St. (includes food samples and a plant-based meal for registrants)
• Home Energy Rebates with the Hoosier Environmental Council on Wednesday, May 22 from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Municipal Gardens Family Center, 1831 Lafayette Rd.
The goal of the workshops is to build community and solidarity around the topics of climate change and adaptation, especially in Indianapolis neighborhoods that have been historically under-resourced and over-polluted.
The general public is also encouraged to celebrate Earth Month in Indy Parks by helping clean up any litter in their local park. Gloves and trash bags donated by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful are available for pickup at all Indy Parks family centers for the entire month of April.
