Community Fairbanks Recovery Housing Receives $5 Million Donation

INDIANAPOLIS — Local philanthropist Julie Wood, on behalf of the Tom & Julie Wood Family Foundation, will donate $5 million to Community Health Network Foundation to endow Community Fairbanks Recovery Center’s Recovery Housing program. The investment is the largest gift in Community Health Network’s history, and it will be paid over five years.
Recovery Housing offers a structured environment where individuals can develop and practice life skills while maintaining a drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle. Community Fairbanks Recovery Center’s supportive living apartments provide a safe and sober environment as residents continue on the road of recovery. Residents are encouraged to stay at Recovery Housing for at least nine weeks, but many choose to stay longer. In 2023, more than 250 individuals benefited from the Recovery Housing program, and the average length of stay was 67 days. The fully furnished apartments include WiFi, cable, laundry facilities. In addition, residents are provided individual care and support and a customized Resident Success Plan for a smooth transition home.
Residents can participated in sober fun and service work, access to support meetings, transportation to Community Fairbanks programming, and assistance with applying for employment.
The facilities have an on-site resident manager for after-hours support or emergencies. The also have curfew checks, daily apartment checks, drug and alcohol screenings, and a food pantry open seven days a week.
The National Study of Treatment and Addiction Recovery Residences Report (NSTARR) for Indiana ranks the Hoosier State at 37 out of 51 (including DC) in terms of recovery housing availability per capita. In Marion County, substance use disorder is the second most diagnosed mental health disorder, with depression in the first spot and anxiety disorder ranking third.
The Tom & Julie Wood Family Foundation has been a long-time supporter of Community Fairbanks Recovery Center. From 2018 to 2023, the foundation had given $1.2 million to help more than 1,400 clients in recovery with rent assistance.
