Indianapolis Women’s Chorus Hosts Lea Morris March 8-10

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Women’s Chorus is bringing singer-songwriter and community-singing advocate Lea Morris to Indianapolis for a weekend of music-making March 8-10.
Morris’ sound, which often draws comparisons to Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell, is a unique Soul-Folk style that features insightful lyrics and multi-layered chants combined with looped harmonies and vocal percussions. Lea’s works for chorus are beloved favorites of community choirs around the world — including IWC.
“In celebration of IWC’s 30th anniversary season, we want to share our belief in the power of community singing by bringing Lea Morris to Indy not only to do a workshop and concert with us, but also to work with singers at IPS School 43,” said IWC Artistic Director Meagan Johnson. “Her songs ‘Honor the Dark’ and ‘Be the Light’ (inspired by Amanda Gorman’s ‘The Hill We Climb’ poem) are IWC audience favorites.”
On Sunday., March 10 at 5 p.m. there will be an “Awakening” concert at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, 6501 N. Meridian. At the March 10 concert, Morris will perform her solo repertoire, and IWC will sing some of her best-loved choral music.
This special concert will also feature a new spoken-word piece created on the “Awakening” theme by Manòn Voice, with performances by Indianapolis Women’s Chorus. Manòn is a multi-hyphenate-poet and spoken word artist, filmmaker, actor, hip-hop emcee, educator, and community builder.
Tickets for the show are available online at indianapoliswomenschorus.org/buytickets for $20 online or $25 at the door.
