From The Indianapolis Times, Tuesday, December 11, 1923: The Indianapolis Street Railway announced that the long promised cross-town service from Mt. Jackson to Irvington straight across Washington St. will become a reality starting Sunday. All cars on the West Washington St. line will make the cross-town run, while several of those on the East Washington St. line will make the entire trip. Service will be maintained from six to eight-minute intervals during the day and at four-minute intervals during rush hour. Cars on the East Michigan St. and Brightwood lines will be rerouted downtown to relieve congestion on the cross-town lines. Last year, the streetcar company tried running two cars an hour between Irvington and Mt. Jackson, but it was unsuccessful. This plan will be given a thorough trial, and if demand is found for this service, it will continue.
