From The Indianapolis Star, Thursday, May 17, 1923: The Guardian State Bank received its charter yesterday from the state board. The bank will be located in the neighborhood of Indiana Ave. and Vermont St. and will seek the banking business of the colored people of Indianapolis. The new bank, which has a capital of $25,000 (2022: $441,644), is affiliated with the Meyer-Kiser Bank and is expected to open for business in about ninety days. Guardian State Bank will not do a commercial business but will emphasize savings and checking accounts. It will have insurance, real estate and rental, and investment departments. Julian Kiser, vice president of the Meyer-Kiser Bank, will be the president of the new bank. All bank officers, except the cashier, will serve without compensation and no dividends will be paid in order to build up Guardian’s surplus.
