LAWRENCE — Heartland Film has announced its headquarters are moving to the Sterrrett Center, 8950 Otis Ave., on the Fort Ben Cultural Campus. The Center has been renovated thanks to the support of the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation. The building was formerly the Fort Harrison Service Club and provided leisure activities to enlisted service members.
Lawrence Mayor Steve Collier will join other notable attendees for an official ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 3:30 p.m. followed by and open house until 6 p.m. Other attendees will include famed “Hoosiers” and “Rudy” director Angelo Pizzo, Indiana Senator Kyle Walker, Arts for Lawrence Executive Director Elana Thompson, and Parks Board President and Presient of the Fort Harrison Reuse Authority Jeff Vest.
Heartland Film is a nonprofit arts organization that organizes the annual 11 day Heartland Film Festival in October, the Indy Shorts International Film Festival in July, and many other year-round programs showcasing the best of film arts. Founded in 1991, Heartland Film festivals have presented $3.5 million in cash prizes — the largest amount of any film festival in North America. It has shown more than 2,000 feature and short films, and presents over 400 film screenings and events every year throughout the Indianapolis area.
Heartland Film will launch a new building fund at the ribbon cutting to help raise funds for needs like a new projector, sound system, and other updates to the new facility. Visit heartlandfilm.org for more information.
