INDIANAPOLIS — Reimagining the Curb, the City’s initiative to leverage connections to underground power located at 89 former BlueIndy sites along curbs in Indianapolis neighborhoods, is moving forward with new ideas.
After the departure of BlueIndy, the City of Indianapolis was left with an underground asset and a rare opportunity to use curb space in a strategic manner that moves Indianapolis closer to its sustainability objectives and further enhances the City’s mobility.
Following public engagement efforts, the City evaluated resident data by conducting a suitability analysis to produce recommendations for each site across Indianapolis. These recommendations affirmed resident priorities, outlining the use of sites for charging for electric vehicles, e-scooters, e-bikes, bike share opportunities, and bike parking. These recommendations are the guiding principles for final planning, design, and implementation as the City seeks a vendor or vendors to implement and operate the solution(s).
Before the end of 2021, the City will develop and issue a Request for Proposals for Tier 1 of the Reimagining the Curb sites.
