Market on the Pennsy June 19

IRVINGTON — The Market on the Pennsy will be held at 5529 Bonna Ave. on June 10 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Black Acre beer garden will be open at noon.
The Market on the Pennsy features works by local artisans and craftspeople, as well as vintage vendors. The market will be held on the third Saturday of the month through October.

Safe Summer Kicks Off Indy Parks Locations

INDIANAPOLIS  — June 11 marked the first night of the City of Indianapolis’ Safe Summer program, which provides safe, free activities and dinner for kids ages 13-18 on summer Friday nights through August 6 at Bethel Park, Frederick Douglass Park, and Municipal Gardens. Over 200 young people attended the first one at Bethel Park. Attendees are able to participate in safe, free activities such as basketball, boxing, painting, and educational “Know Your Rights” programming. The goal of Safe Summer is to provide mentorship and fun activities for Indy’s young people enjoy while school is out.
The City’s Safe Summer programming is supplemented by efforts from community partners and City grant recipients, who will host additional events including a youth talent showcase held by VOICES Corp. and open gym activities held by Boys and Girls Clubs of Indianapolis Monday through Friday from 7 p.m.-11 p.m..

State Health Dept. Awarded Funds to Address COVID-19

INDIANAPOLIS — The CDC has awarded the Indiana State Department of Health and the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County $40,705,446 to address COVID-19-related health disparities.
Nearly $8 million has been carved out for serving people in rural communities. The funding, part of a $2.25 billion nationwide investment, seeks to advance health equity by expanding state, local, US territorial, and freely associated state health department capacity and services. This is CDC’s largest investment to date to improve health equity in the United States.
