From The Indianapolis Times, Wednesday, June 22, 1921: Avoiding automobile collisions is one of the best ways to keep Indianapolis streets free of glass, according to Guy Jeffries, president of the Hoosier Motor Club. “When the time comes that motorists use common sense in the matter of crossing street intersections with their machines, then we will see a great reduction in collisions. However, while waiting for that millennial occasion, the Hoosier Motor Club is arranging a pick-up-the-glass campaign to save automobile tires from destruction,” declared Jeffries. Reports of glass on streets may be telephoned to the motor club Claypool Hotel headquarters from noon to midnight, and the club’s “trouble shooter” motorcycle man will go to the scene of automobile accidents and sweep up the broken glass. The motorcycle trouble shooter is currently giving free first aid service to club members.
