Applause!: April 9-15

• The daffodils along Ellenberger Parkway have been spectacular this year! Thanks to the Irvington Garden Club volunteers for planting bulbs years ago.
• Little Flower Catholic Church will be the site for a neighborhood food drive on Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. All donations go to Shepherd Community Center. They need non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, can openers, bottled water, and baby items. Drop off point is at the front steps of the church, located at 1401 N. Bosart Ave. The effort is being sponsored by the Little Flower Neighborhood Association.
• While the state of Indiana has lifted its mask mandate, Marion County has NOT. You are still required to wear a face mask in indoor public facilities in Indianapolis. In addition, businesses may continue to require face masks. Even if you are vaccinated, you may carry COVID-19 and spread it to others. Please be considerate and continue to wear your masks. And don’t forget to wash your hands and keep six feet away from people who aren’t in your “bubble.” The sooner we get this thing licked, the sooner we can get back to whatever we think of as normal.
• Masks are still required to be worn in government buildings, schools, as well as coronavirus testing and vaccine sites.
• If you are looking for a place to take a nice stroll, check out the Pogue’s Run Art and Nature Park, located at 2300 Dequincy. The trail forms a loop around a pond, where you can see all sorts of wildlife (including beavers!) and art. Remember to keep your dogs on leash and pick up after your pets!
• Mrs. Stacy Muffler has been named as the Assistant Director of Curriculum & Instruction at the Mount Vernon Community School Corporation. She will begin her tenure on July 1. She has held a variety of leadership positions in MVCSC and is currently serving as the Fortville Elementary School principal.
• Check out the west bank of White River Gardens to see the annual burst of cherry blossoms. These are Yoshino cherry trees given to the city to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the cherry trees gifted in Washington D.C. The park is located W. Washington in downtown Indianapolis.
• Help clean up Garfield Park by stopping by the Burrello Family Center starting Monday, April 19 through Thursday, April 22 from 10 a.m. -7 p.m. to pick-up a FREE Indy Parks water bottle, trash bag, and pair of disposable gloves for your efforts. (Supplies are limited, first come, first served). The park is located at 2432 Conservatory Dr. on the southeast side.
