I had the privilege of getting a sneak preview of the St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild Decorators’ Show House and Gardens at 5417 N. Meridian St. This is the Guild’s 60th Anniversary Home Tour! It will be in-person but with limited tickets being sold online only. “The Columns on Meridian,” (1929 /1930) was built in the Colonial Revival architectural style.
All the proceeds benefit Eskenazi Health. This unique Guild of Women have volunteered their time and talents to this project. I’ve been going every year for the past 23 years. There are other tours out there, but none as wonderful as this one. Every nook and cranny and room is decorated by a professional team — 22 in all. Some are new designers and others have been doing the home tour for decades. You will see the most current trends as the designers blend their talents together to create a home that is not only stunning but liveable. I always come away with new ideas for my own home. Each room has a price list of items used and you can contact individual designers for purchases.
The living room has a grand piano which looks small in the huge room, but with the placement of furnishings it still has a cozy warm feel (designer Audrey Studley of Kittles). The study is a unique room with tall wood built-in bookcases with curved tops perfectly adorned with books and art (designer Cathy Wright). The dining room is stunning with it’s blue and white por
celain in the leaded glass built-ins and two glorious matching chandeliers (designer Rosalind Pope).
Up the entryway’s curved stairway you’ll find the master bedroom with a sitting area bigger than my living room. The walls have an amazing Asian themed wall paper (designer Matt Harris) and the master bath en suite is to die for. It’s magnificent with intricate designed tile and marble everywhere including a sink that lights up from within (designers JD Dick & Lori Goldsby of Cabinetry Ideas). All the bedrooms are incredible with unique tiled bathrooms. Don’t miss the doggie in the window! The enormous kitchen was still in the works but magnificent from what I saw and check out the mudroom on the way to the backyard with it’s magnolia print wallpaper and butterfly art and the unexpected ceiling pattern (designer Stacy Thompson of Compass Design).
The day I was there the landscape designers (Mr. Green Jeans, Surroundings by Natureworks & Midwest Landscape Industries) were busy working on the gardens which will be spectacular.
Thank you Anne Buskirk, promotions director for the tour (and the official photographer for Tour booklet you will receive). The Show House runs April 24th through May 9 (closed Mondays) — all the sale information is in the front page feature article. Start a tradition and take your mother or daughter or both and enjoy a wonderful afternoon. Stop by Maggie’s Hoosier Marketplace out back. We’re all ready to get out and enjoy ourselves and this tour will have COVID restrictions to make you feel very safe.
