IRVINGTON — The Bona Thompson Memorial Center will reopen to the public on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 1-4 p.m. A new exhibit, Trees: A City Without Trees Isn’t Fit for a Dog, depicts the importance of trees in Irvington.
Since the 1870s, Irvington has been described as having winding tree-lined streets.” The exhibit includes over 40 works from William Forsyth, Charles Townsend, Otto Stark, Dorothy Morlan, and many more.
The name and cartoon title of the exhibit comes as a gift from Garry Petersen’s family. Garry was a resident who was committed to increasing the urban forest canopy, and a gifted artist who created the first Pleasant Run Run posters (1983-1998). Garry passed in 2016.
The Bona Thompson Memorial Center is located at 5350 University Ave. Admission is free, but a donation for the upkeep of the historic building is encouraged. Also check out the other exhibits in the building, including the International Harvester and Angels exhibits downstairs.
