Eiteljorg’s Dia de Muertos Celebration Goes All Virtual

INDIANAPOLIS — A popular annual community cultural arts celebration will be all virtual for the first time this year. The nationally recognized Eiteljorg Museum Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration will include multiple online events and experiences spanning nearly a week. The celebration begins Oct. 28 and concludes on Nov. 2, the traditional culmination of the Día de Muertos holiday.

Highlights include an artist talk by Carlos Barberena of the Instituto Grafico de Chicago, performances by Mexican singer Roselián, Mexican American musicians A Flor de Piel, a special performance by the Latino Arts Strings Program directed by Dinorah Marquez, a conversation with Mexican visual artist and activist Mustang Jane and more.
With roots going back thousands of years to Indigenous traditions in Mexico, Día de Muertos or Day of the Dead is a holiday celebration where people gather and remember friends and relatives who have passed on. Day of the Dead has evolved into a diverse festival, celebrated not only in Mexico but in the U.S. and many other nations.
