Officers Honored for Water Rescue Efforts

INDIANAPOLIS – Chief Randal Taylor along with Assistant Chief Christopher Bailey and Commander Ronald Hicks made a special presentation at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Southeast District recently, in recognition of the heroic and selfless service of 4 Officers and 1 Sergeant.
On Saturday, June 27, Officer Allen responded within minutes to a 911 call of a car submerged in a retention pond. Officer Allen dove into the murky waters and rescued two teens who had been trapped inside of the submerged vehicle. Officer Allen found one teenager in the back seat and brought her to the surface before going back under the water to locate and rescue a second teenager still trapped in the car. Despite the best efforts of the officers and medical staff, one of the teenagers succumbed to her injuries.
The family of Ella Mayger sent their sincere gratitude but was unable to attend the ceremony. The family of Owen Leck attended middle shift roll call to share their deepest appreciation with officers.
The following list includes all who were honored: Officers Eric Snowden and Jeremy Steward were given Certificates of Commendation; Sergeant Christine Carver earned the Medal of Merit; and Officers Jared Allen and Andrew Hashley received Medals of Bravery.
