The Colts have added former Pittsburgh Steeler fullback Roosevelt Nix to their roster. Nix is 28 years old and regarded as one of the best blocking backs in the league. He made the Pro Bowl squad in 2017. Nix played college ball at Kent State University and is listed as 5” 11” and 249 pounds. Nix was signed as undrafted free agent linebacker by the Atlanta Falcons in 2014. He was on their practice squad and also with the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena League. In 2015, as backing for the running game, the Steelers acquired him and moved him to the fullback position. He excelled on special teams. He was with the Steelers from 2015-2019.
The Colts have not used a fullback in several seasons but believe Nix will add strength to their special teams and extra protection in the offensive backfield. Quarterback Philip Rivers and running back Marlon Mack will certainly welcome him.
Some of the talking heads in the sports broadcast are saying that if Utah Sate quarterback Jordan Love is still available at pick 34, the Colts will most definitely pick him. Love is listed as 6” 4” and 225 pounds and is described as big, strong and athletic. He elected to forgo his senior year. Some scouts say Love needs a bit of seasoning before he is ready to be a starter. If the Colts get him, he could play behind Rivers for a season or two and then move into the starting lineup.
There will be some subtle changes to the Colts uniform. A new secondary logo that honors the State of Indiana and a new wordmark “The Horseshoe ALWAYS!” The changes are as I said subtle, but they will be there if you look.
The team also announced number changes for some Colts. Cornerback Rock Ya-Sin will wear #328. Pass rusher Justin Houston will wear #50 and middle linebacker Anthony Walker will wear #54. As to the New players, Quarterback Philip Rivers will wear #17, Cornerback Xavier Rhodes will wear #27, Cornerback TJ Carrie will wear #38, Defensive Tackle Sheldon Day will wear #91 and Defensive Tackle Deforest Buckner will wear #99.
