The Curse of the Cat People Featured at Vintage Movie Night

INDIANAPOLIS — Film historian Eric Grayson will screen The Curse of the Cat People (1944) as the final monthly Vintage Movie Night selection at the Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Dr., on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m.
“Believe it or not,” Grayson says, “this is really a Christmas film!” The producer, Val Lewton, had a contract with RKO that said he had to make a movie from any title they gave him, but he had complete creative control so long as it was under budget. Featuring actors Simone Simon and Ann Carter, a lonely little girl, with boorish parents, is given to flights of fancy. She is visited by a ghost who may or may not be real. The two celebrate the changing seasons, Christmas, and the little girl learns to cope being with being “different.”
Showing “real film on real projectors,” Grayson will introduce the film and a short feature and conduct a Q&A afterwards.
Admission is $5. For further information, visit www.gpacarts.org or call 317-327-7135.
