Eskenazi Health to Host Community Day Health Fair

As the weather starts to turn colder and we all start contemplating the frigid winter to come, it’s the perfect time for everyone in the family to make plans to get free health screenings and flu shots at the Eskenazi Health Center Community Day Health Fair on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The event will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.at Eskenazi Health Center Grassy Creek at 9443 E. 38th Street, where free health screenings and a limited number of flu shots for those 9 years old and older will be available to everyone.
Free health screenings provided during the health fair will include blood pressure, body mass index, oral health and more. Everyone attending the fair will have the opportunity to receive free giveaways and win door prizes.
The Community Day Health Fair will also offer free information about nutrition, women’s health, adolescent health, Indianapolis EMS, mental health and health insurance. Radio One will be partnering on the event and will broadcast live during the fair.
Health screenings are vitally important because they can help find problems before they start. The earlier health issues are detected, the better the chances are for early treatment and a positive outcome.
By getting the right health services, screenings, and treatments, you’re taking steps that help your chances for living a longer, healthier life. Your age, health and family history, lifestyle choices (i.e. what you eat, how active you are, whether you smoke), and other important factors impact what and how often you need health care.
Prior to your arrival at the Eskenazi Health Center Community Day Health Fair, we recommend taking some to time to think of and write down a list of issues and questions to address with the Eskenazi Health professionals. Sometimes when speaking with providers, it can be challenging to remember everything you want to know, so leave room between your questions so you may write down the answers from your provider.
Be sure to let providers know if you’ve experienced any recent body changes, including lumps or skin changes. You’ll also want to mention if you’re experiencing any pain, dizziness, fatigue, problems with your urine or stool, or menstrual cycle changes. Have you also experienced any recent changes in your eating habits, and are you experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, distress, or sleeping problems?
You’ll also want to let your provider know if you’re thinking about quitting smoking, trying to lose weight, or you want to explore having fertility treatments. Providers will want to discuss those issues with you so that you can make better decisions about your health and well-being.
Always be honest with health professionals with whatever you’re experiencing with your health. It’s up to each individual to provide the most up-to-date and accurate information possible so providers may develop an effective plan partly on what they learn from their patients.
All Eskenazi Health Center locations offer a variety of services that include OB/GYN, mental health, primary care (pediatric, adolescent and adult), medical-legal partnership, a pharmacy, diabetes education, dietetics consultation, and women, infants and children services provided by the Marion County Public Health Department.
