INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) will manage the reconstruction of East Market Street, between Delaware and Alabama streets in the coming 2020 construction season. DPW project ST-25-161D along this segment of Market Street will include traffic calming measures, stormwater management features and pedestrian infrastructure upgrades during a full street closure, expected to last from March to November 2020.
Project highlights include increased safety and accessibility measures for pedestrians moving between the City-County Building and the Indianapolis City Market. The design includes a raised pedestrian crossing between the two buildings, as well as curb bump-outs to condense motorized traffic lanes. Parking capacity will be also be maintained as a part of the design.
Normally located along East Market Street between Delaware and Alabama streets, the Original Farmers’ Market at the Indianapolis City Market will be relocated during the 2020 street closure. DPW is working with Indianapolis City Market leadership to evaluate and confirm a temporary location for the 2020 season.
