Applause!: July 26-Aug. 1

• Teachers’ Treasures, in its 19th year of providing free school supplies to teachers in Marion County, just announced it expanded into a second location. Starting August 6th, teachers will be able to choose between shopping at the primary location in the near eastside location or at its new satellite location at Northwest Middle School, at 34th and Moller.
• There will be a special Great Indy Cleanup focused on the Christian Park area on Saturday, August 3 beginning at 8 a.m. There will be refreshments for volunteers, bags and gloves. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own trash picker-uppers, if they have them. The project should be completed by 11 a.m. Meet at the Christian Park Family Center, 4200 English Ave.
• On Wednesday, July 31, the city is organizing a special project to combat litter and illegal dumping in Indianapolis’ Tuxedo Park neighborhood. City representatives, community groups and volunteers will visit Tuxedo Park neighborhood to clean up discarded trash and illegally dumped debris and materials, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. BNS and KIB will supply gloves, bags and tools to volunteers. DPW will be on hand to collect and remove larger trash items. DMD will, also, assist with the removal of illegally dumped debris and construction materials on city owned properties. • ARTI (Africana Repertory Theater of IUPUI) and IndyFringe are collaborating to host the 2019 OnyxFest, which stages works of Black playwrights July 25, 26 and 27, at the District Theater and IndyFringe.. Onyx Fest plays include“To Canaan with Love, Bethel” by RaeVen Ridgell, “The People Speak: Voices of the African Diaspora,” and “The Price of Progress: The Indiana Avenue/IUPUI Story.” Shows start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now online at www.indyfringe.org for $15.
• Indy Shorts International Festival is on for the weekend of July 25-28 at Newfields (4000 N. Michigan Rd.), and other locations throughout the city. Indiana-centric films are highlighted, and there is a huge variety of themes.  There are some great short films and documentaries in this year’s line-up; tickets are only $12 for non-members and available by phone at 1-866-HFF-1010 or online at IndyShorts.org
• Seniors may be eligible for $20 in farmer’s market vouchers through CICOA. Participants must be over 60 or disabled and living in senior housing, plus meet federal poverty income guidelines. This is a great program for seniors to get fresh, local food. Visit cicoa.org for more information about eligibility.
• The IndyGo Red Line construction is beginning to wind down as the completion date of Sept. 1 draws near. The line will run north-south  and will be free to ride the entire month of September. Local routes including Open Door paratransit will be free to ride until Sept. 14.
