IACS Launches Campaign Warning of Hot Car Dangers

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) recently launched a campaign to keep pets safe as temperatures continue to rise throughout the summer. One of the shelter’s older vehicles is now acting as a “billboard on wheels,” reminding pet owners of the dangers of leaving animals in hot cars. The red, Jeep Cherokee will be parked at various Indy Parks locations over the next few weeks to educate as many people as possible.
Truck Lettering Indy donated decals that can be seen on most of the windows of the red, Jeep Cherokee. The decals include instructions of what to do if you see an animal in a car on a hot day. A thermometer hanging in the windshield shows the temperature inside the car.
So far this summer, IACS has received several calls of animals left alone in vehicles on hot days. Fortunately, none of those calls have turned deadly. If you see an animal in distress inside a vehicle, call 911 immediately. When speaking with the dispatcher, make sure to give as many details as possible to help responding officers.
