BMV Highlights New Licenses and Identification Cards

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) Commissioner Peter L. Lacy recently discussed the rollout of the new, more secure, Indiana driver’s license and identification card (ID). Commissioner Lacy, with BMV Chief Operating Officer Kevin Garvey and Executive Director of Credential Programs Stephen Leak, welcomed media outlets to the Indianapolis Beech Grove Branch to learn about the new cards.
The new licenses and IDs offer new security features and an easier to read design. New elements include tactile lettering for quick authentication, black and white laser engraved personal image, and Indiana focused imagery. Cards also maintain and update features from the last design including UV security features and vertical cards indicating an individual is under 21 years of age.
It will take several weeks to transition all branches to the new design but cards will be available at all locations, online, and BMV Connect kiosks by mid-July. The old design is still one of the most secure available and your card is still valid until the expiration date printed on the front.
