St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations on the East Side

The east side is rich in Irish heritage, and therefore is THE place to be for the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Downtown, the festivities commence with the greening of the Canal at Ohio and West streets on Thursday, March 14 at 5 p.m. On Friday, March 15, don’t miss the 38th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade beginning at North and Fort Wayne/Pennsylvania streets, where you can see bagpipers, bands, and Irvington’s own Black Hat Society witches a few politicos wearing the green. On Saturday, March 16 at 9 a.m., there will be the 28th Annual Shamrock Run and Walk beginning at Local 416 Union Hall downtown.
St. Paddy’s weekend begins at the Irish Mutt which will host its big tent party beginning March 15, with doors open at 11 a.m. and tent open at 3 p.m. Friday’s music includes Emcee Bob Gavaghan, Rogue Bagpipers at 5 p.m., and Full Moon Dogs at 7 p.m. March 16, the show includes Rogue Bagpipers at 4 p.m., followed by Dog Bite Mike at 7 p.m. Sunday’s music will features traditional Irish music, followed by the Rogue Bagpipers at 6 p.m.
The Shi-Kay Lounge, 1514 N. Emerson, will host a benefit for the Mary Moriarity Adams Memorial Scholarship Fund on Sunday, March 17 from 1-5 p.m. Councilman Blake Johnson started a scholarship fund for east side students in 2016, and renamed the scholarship to honor the late, great City-County Councilwoman Mary Moriarity Adams. Donations will be welcome at the event, or on the GoFundMe Web site set up for the scholarship.
Stop by Si Greene’s Pub, 5109 E. 10th St., on Friday, March 15 with DJ Marshall and the Why Store at 9 p.m., March 16 with Dear Loser at 8 p.m., and March 17 with the Highlanders at 4 p.m.
McGinley’s Golden Ace celebrations begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday in the big heated tent, with music beginning at 12:30 p.m. Big traditional Irish/Celtic music performers include Patrick Grant, the Dooley Brothers, and Derek Warfield and the Young Wolf Tones on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be a Catholic Mass said on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (no alcohol until after Mass). The Golden Ace is considered one of the top 10 places in the country to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
