This particular Super Bowl was among the most boring and least entertaining of these contests ever played. The total score was 13-3. That’s the least amount of total points ever scored in such a game. The wonderful Gladys Knight sang a beautiful rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.” After that, it was all down hill. The game itself was a war of punts, particularly for the Rams. New England wide receiver Julian Edelman was the game’s MVP but it could have just as easily been Patriot punter Ryan Allen whose punts kept the Rams bottled up deep in their own territory the whole game. Jared Goff looked panic-stricken most of the second half as everything the Ram offense tried fell apart. The Ram offensive line was just awful. They are going to have to go back to the drawing board and redo it for 2019. Not that the Pats were a whole lot better. Brady and Co. played it ultra-conservatively against the Aaron Donald-led Ram defense and did no more than they had to to pull out the win The result was the same-old, same-old. The Pats are now tied with the Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins with 6. Tom Brady at 41 is the oldest quarterback to win a Super Bowl. Bill Belichick at age 66 is the oldest coach to win a Super Bowl.
I didn’t see most of the commercials and I did not view the half time show so I can not comment on their watchability. My general impression, however, was that what is supposed to be the nation’s premier sporting event turned out to be a colossal snoozefest. With that the 2018 NFL season is finally history.
