“They’re Playing Our Song” opens Jan. 4

INDIANAPOLIS – Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre kicks off its 46th Season on just the right note Jan. 4 as it presents the romantic comedy by Neil Simon and Marvin Hamlisch: They’re Playing Our Song.
Vernon Gersch is a popular and successful composer who would like to delve into a collaboration. He meets quirky and impulsive Sonia Walsk, a lyricist and poet who admires his many accolades. They approach their work very differently — Vernon completely immerses himself, while Sonia is more of a free spirit. But the success of Vernon’s first piece that pairs with her lyrics is so good they decide to continue to work together.
Their relationship becomes a roller coaster of ups and downs professionally and personally, but they are destined to find harmony and a happy ever after.
Nominated for four Tony Awards, They’re Playing Our Song stars David Schmittou as and Vernon, Sarah Hund as Sonia. Rounding out the cast are Peter Scharbrough and Doug King as the alter egos of Vernon, and Lauren Morgan and AnnaLee Traeger as the alter egos of Sonia.
They’re Playing Our Song is on stage for 32 performances through Feb. 3. Tickets range from $45 to $70, and include Chef Odell Ward’s dinner buffet, fruit & salad bar, unlimited coffee, tea and lemonade.
