First Friday Events Showcase Local Artists’ Gifts

INDIANAPOLIS — The Harrison Center, in partnership with Onyx + East, present Onyx + East, an artist reception and open studio night on Fri., Dec. 7 from 6 to 10 p.m. In the Harrison Gallery, the longstanding annual color-themed holiday group show features onyx-hued work from dozens of local artists. The theme spills into the Gallery Annex with work by Patrick Reith and Tonya Wong.
The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange’s Winter Mini fills the gymnasium and Underground with their juried show of modern craft vendors just in time for holiday shopping. In addition, the City Gallery is transformed into a holiday pop up shop filled with work from Harrison Center studio artists. The shop opens on First Friday, but is also open Monday through Friday from 9 to 5 throughout the month for holiday shoppers’ convenience.
First Friday attendees can grab a complimentary coffee or cocoa in the courtyard, then head around the building for the annual Holiday Window Tour. Artists have transformed the 22 ground level windows with winter-themed vignettes. The tour, which began in 2015, has been expanded this year to include eight storefront windows at the Circle Centre Mall in the former Carson’s display windows. The Harrison Center is located at 16th and Delaware.
You’ll be “All Wrapped Up” in the spirit of the season at the annual holiday open house presented by the Stutz Artists Association.  Featuring the amazing works of 70 artists, this one-of-a-kind event offers art, entertainment, food and beverages from the in-house Bearcats Restaurant, as well as dessert delights from local eateries and caterers.  Doors open at 5 p.m. on December 7.
This free social and shopping event will take place on all four levels of the historic Stutz Business and Arts Center, located at 212 W. 10th St. Studios and business will be open for business and the entire building will be alive with entertainment, food, fun, vintage cars and racing memorabilia for everyone to enjoy. The fun continues throughout the evening until 10 p.m.
The entrance for the evening’s party is located inside Blackhawk Alley, which is accessible from West 10th St. (midway between Senate and Capital) and from Capital Ave. (midway between 10th and 11th).  Plenty of parking surrounds the building.  A free trolley will be available for guests wishing to visit additional downtown art centers and galleries.
The Circle City Industrial Complex at 1125 Brookside Ave., artists will have gallery openings throughout Fri. Dec. 7 from 6-9 p.m., and will host the additional monthly art event throughout the building, “+Saturday,” on Dec. 8th, 12-4 p.m., overlapping with the Winter Farmer’s Market. Together, the two events become “First Friday + Saturday,” and allow visitors to the CCIC time to take in the work of the 90 artists throughout the building.
