From The Indianapolis News, Friday, August 16: Butler College received word today that it has been selected as a site for a unit of the students’ army training corps which will be in working operation when classes resume next month. The purpose of the corps, which has been established under the President, is to qualify students for effective service in the armed forces of the United States. Physically fit students over eighteen years of age will be enlisted in the United States army and will stay in college until such time as they are needed for active service. Each student member will be issued olive drab clothing, arms, and equipment conforming to those prescribed for the regular army. An army officer will serve as commanding officer of the training corps, and the curriculum will cover at least two years.
